Scuol: Guide
Scuol is een gemeente in het Zwitserland|Zwitserse kanton Graubünden.
De gemeente veranderde in de 20e eeuw drie keer van naam. Tot 1943 heette het Schuls, daarna tot 1970 Bad Scuol/Schuls, in 1999 veranderde de naam uiteindelijk van Bad Scuol naar Scuol. Tot de gemeente behoren ook de bergdorpen Pradella en S-charl.
Scuol ligt in het door de rivier de Inn uitgesleten Engadin|Unter Engadin, ten zuiden van het Silvrettamassief en ten noorden van Zwitsers Nationaal Park. De hoofdtaal is er Retoromaans, maar er wordt ook Zwitserduits gesproken. De plaats Scuol is verdeeld in een hoger en lager deel: Scuol Sura en Scuol Sot. Het Unter Engadin staat bekend om haar zachte klimaat, het is een van de droogste delen van Zwitserland en telt een groot aantal zonuren.
De plaats is voor een groot deel afhankelijk van het toerisme. 's Winters wordt er geskied op de hellingen van de Motta Naluns en heeft het 72 kilometer aan uitgezette Loipe|langlaufloipen. In de zomer wordt er veel in het omringende gebergte gewandeld. Scuol geniet ook grote bekendheid als thermale badplaats.
Het bergdorp S-charl ligt in het gelijknamige dal ten zuiden van Scuol. Het is een populair uitgangspunt voor wandelingen. In het Val S-charl ligt Tamangur, het hoogstgelegen arvenbos van Europa (continent)|Europa. In het dal werd in 1904 de laatste Zwitserse beer neergeschoten. De toen 6 jarige berin is opzet en geplaatst in het plaatselijke museum.
