Marmaris: Guide
Marmaris is een Turkije|Turkse badplaats, gelegen in de provincie Mugla (provincie)|Mugla. Het heeft een inwoneraantal van 32.000 (2004), echter in de zomer kan het aantal inwoners een piek bereiken van rond de 200.000 mensen.
Marmaris is gelegen in een besloten baai, aan de Lycische Kust, vlakbij waar de Middellandse Zee en de Egeïsche Zee elkaar ontmoeten. Het Griekenland|Griekse eiland Rodos (eiland)|Rodos is vanaf de zeekant van de baai met helder weer te zien. De stad heeft ook een uitgebreide jachthaven.
De historische naam van Marmaris is Physkos. De eerste bewoning vond plaats rond 3500-3000 v. Chr.|3500 v. Chr.. Daarna hebben onder andere de Geschiedenis van Egypte|Egyptenaren, de Griekse oudheid|Grieken, de Perzen, de Romeinse Rijk|Romeinen, de Byzantijnen en de Ottomanen hun sporen achter gelaten. Hier is echter weinig meer van te zien in Marmaris zelf.
Bekende historische gebouwen zijn de 16e eeuwse citadel, de moskee van Ibrahim Agha uit 1789 en de Ottomaanse woonkazerne uit 1545.
Op 28 augustus 2006 vond een aantal bomaanslagen plaats in de badplaats waarbij vele gewonden vielen.
