Vigo: Guide
Vigo is de grootste stad van de autonome regio Galicië en van de provincie Pontevedra (provincie)|Pontevedra. Het is echter niet de hoofdstad van Galicië (A Coruña (stad)|A Coruña) en ook niet van de provincie (Pontevedra (stad)|Pontevedra). Op 1 januari 2005 had de sta een inwonertal van 293.725, en inclusief de voorsteden wonen er 423.821 mensen. Het is daarmee de 15e metropool of agglomeratie van Spanje.
Vigo is afhankelijk van de auto-industrie, het belangrijkste bedrijf van de stad is dan ook de PSA Peugeot Citroën|Peugeot-Citroëngroep, die in 2003 in haar vestiging te Vigo 473.000 voertuigen produceerde. Hiervan werd meer dan 88% geëxporteerd. Vigo is de grootste vissershaven van Europa (continent)|Europa en is de thuisbasis van de Spaanse visproducent Pescanova, de grootste ter wereld. Ook het Europese Visserij Bureau bevindt zich in de stad.
