Jelenia Góra: Guide
Jelenia Góra (stad in het Polen|Poolse woiwodschap Neder-Silezië (woiwodschap)|Neder-Silezië, gelegen in de powiat Powiat Jeleniogórski|Jelenia Góra. De oppervlakte bedraagt 108,36 km², het inwonertal 87.643 (2005).
Vóór de Tweede Wereldoorlog was deze stad Duitsland|Duits grondgebied en heette zij Hirschberg. Ook Jelenia Góra betekent 'hertenberg'. De stad is ontstaan in een keteldal tussen de voetheuvels en de echte bergen van de Karkanosze. In feite bestaat de stad uit het oude Jelenia Góra en een aantal dorpjes dat eraan vast is gegroeid.
In het dal, in de stad komt de rivier de Kamnienna uit in de rivier de Bóbr.
Zo ook de plaats Cieplice, een bekend kuuroord met thermale wateren die uit enkele bronnen ontspringen, en ook gemineraliseerde genezende wateren.
In de stad ligt een paleis- en parkcomplex. Net erbuiten liggen de ruïnes van het kasteel Chojnik uit de 12e eeuw. In 1675 brandde de burcht door de bliksem geheel af. Daarna werd het kasteel nooit meer herbouwd.
Jaarlijks is in Jelenia Góra de viering van de September van Jelenia Góra en in juli het internationaal Straattheater-Festival.
Het oude stadscentrum is de moeite waard, met zijn gekleurde huizen, winkeltjes en pleintjes. De huizen langs het marktplein hebben allemaal een booggewelf, dat in de zomer koelte geeft. Net buiten het oude centrum is de dagelijkse markt.
