Quimper: Guide
Quimper (Bretons Kemper) is een stad in Bretagne (regio)|Bretagne, Frankrijk. De stad is de hoofdstad|prefectuur van het departement (Frankrijk)|departement Finistère. In 1999 had de stad 63.238 inwoners.
De naam van de stad is Kemper in het Jet samen.
Geschiedenis
De stad heette vroeger Quimper-Corentin, naar de eerste bisschop van de stad, Corentin. Gedurende de Franse revolutie werd de naam veranderd in Montagne sur Odet; nu is de naam alleen Quimper.
Quimper is de geboorteplaats van de uitvinder van de stethoscoop, René Théophile Hyacinthe Laënnec (17 februari 1781).
