Luxeuil-les-Bains: Guide
Luxeuil-les-Bains is een gemeente in het Frankrijk|Franse departement Haute-Saône (regio Franche-Comté) en telt 8414 inwoners (1999). De plaats maakt deel uit van het arrondissement Arrondissement Lure|Lure.
Geografie
De oppervlakte van Luxeuil-les-Bains bedraagt 21,8 km², de bevolkingsdichtheid is 386,0 inwoners per km². De geografische coördinaten zijn 47° 49' N.B. 6° 23' O.L.
Geschiedenis
Ten tijde van de Galliërs werd op deze plaats de keltische god Luxovius vereerd. Reeds toen was de plaats bekend om haar warmwaterbronnen. De plaats ontwikkelt zich verder tijdens de gallo-romeinse periode onder de naam Luxovium.
In 451 wordt de plaats verwoest door Attila. Gedurende meer dan 100 jaar geraakt de plaats in de vergetelheid.
De Ierse monnik Columbanus en zijn gezellen stichten omstreeks 590 de abdij van Luxeuil.
